I spent a lot of my teenage years in the south Florida hardcore scene. What began with a listening of Poison the Well’s The Opposite of December turned into a love for this rhythmically complicated and emotional genre of music. My tastes in it have evolved over the last 16 years and for the past number of months I’ve been hooked on Grievances, the fourth studio album by English matchore/post-hardcore band Rolo Tomassi. The 5-piece is fronted by Eva Spence, a gal who sings and can scream more brutally than most male frontmen. For Grievances they went a much darker route that resulted in a more intense and emotional listening experience while retaining the wildness of their previous mathcore sound. If you like a little post-hardcore in your ears when you write, please give this a listen.
