Rivers Arms (post-rock) – Balmorhea

Album: Rivers Arms

Artist: Balmorhea

Released: 2008

Description: At their website, Balmorhea says about itself, “Balmorhea’s early work reflected motifs of the American Southwest: the folklore of Texas settlers, the emotive proclamations of the mountainous setting, and intimate studies on solitude, nature, and night.” The music is pretty, understated, and follows a minimalist approach to post-rock instrumental music. The instruments consist of piano, guitars, and strings, and they layer beautifully together in a way that can sink you into deep thoughts. The music is fitting for literary fiction, pieces of introspection, and perhaps even a college essay requiring some persuasive emotion.
