Youtuber Every Frame a Painting created the video “F for Fake (1973) – How to Structure a Video Essay” and in it he goes over the genius storytelling structuring of Orson Welles by deconstructing Welles’ video essay F for Fake. In it he has a clip of the creators of South Park giving a lecture on story structure, and they speak about one of the greatest lessons they learned, one Welles explains in his video essay, which is that plot points should not be driven by “and then” but instead “but” or “therefore”.
Trey Parker explains, “What should happen between every beat that you’ve written down is either the word ‘therefore’ or ‘but’.”
