I’ve always written to music. It helps put me in a creative place and before I know it me and the keyboard are moving right along to the tracks in my headphones. Over a decade ago, before I studied Creative Writing in college, I had been a Music Composition major with the hopes of one day becoming a film composer. Fast-forward twelve years and I’m now a Development Director at a video game studio (I’ve been a bit all over the map but that’s a longer story). Once I got into video games I met a lot of other folks who work to instrumental music of all kinds, and at my current game studio, n-Space Inc., I’ve gotten the pleasure of working with former Disney feature animators. These animators, like me, illustrate to film scores and we got around to sharing albums we liked and I found I had a great joy in sharing my preferred music, as well as receiving their recommendations. When I got around to searching the internets for ‘music to write to’ I was surprised to not find a site or blog dedicated to it (although admittedly it wasn’t a thorough search, I’m a busy man for Christ’s sakes).
Then the idea formed. Make a blog, share what helps me write, and hear from other’s what they like, and if I’m lucky maybe it turns into a little community of people sharing their interests. Am I qualified to tell anyone what helps me write with my current lack of any true writing success? Absolutely!
If you enjoy the site let me know! If you don’t, well, let me know, too. Just, in the wise words of The Flight of Conchords, “be constructive with your feedback.”
